Survey of Attitudes, Values and
Beliefs about the Māori Language 2003 and 2006
The data collected through the Survey
of Attitudes, Values and Beliefs about the Māori
Language is useful because it tells us about the
environment we live in and how people feel about Māori
language; do they value it? is it relevant to their
everyday lives? who should be speaking it?
This information can assist language
planners, hapū, iwi, community groups, researchers,
schools, government departments and others, to develop
and support Māori language initiatives at all levels.
