Licensing of Translators and Interpreters
Te Tuku Raihana ki ngā Kaiwhakamāori ā-Tuhi/ā-Waha
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori is entitled to award the following certificates of competency:
(a) competency in translation
(b) competency in interpretation
(c) competency in translation and interpretation
The Māori Language Act 2016 renews the duty and responsibility of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori to provide training and examinations for Te Toi Reo Māori.

What: This is not a formal kura whakapakari reo although participants’ Māori and English language quality skills will be strengthened. The focus of the training is to develop and improve your skills in English to Māori written translation, and Māori to English oral interpretation.
Who: You will be a fluent speaker of Māori; you will have an excellent command of grammar, vocabulary and idiomatic language and dialectal variations; you can convey all your thoughts, opinions and emotions spontaneously, fluently and appropriately in a wide range of situations; when conversing in Māori you will very rarely, if ever, need to switch to English; you may have a degree in Māori language; you make very few errors.
If you do not fulfil all these pre-requisite skills please reconsider your intention to enrol in this programme.

Fee: $80.00 registration fee will cover the use of marae facilities, the training workbook, meals and accommodation at Te Ara o Tāwhaki. Candidates will pay their own travel and alternative accommodation

Sleeping facilities will be available on Saturday 24 March (Hui 1), Friday 27 & 28 April (Hui 2), Friday 25 & 26 May (Hui 3), Friday 22 & 23 June (Hui 4) and Friday 29 & 30 June (Examinations)
