Ngā Mihi - Greetings

I te ao Māori, he mea nui te mihi i te tangata. Mā ngā kupu tonu ka tīkina atu me te āhua o te whakatakoto i te whakaaro e kitea ai te ngākau manaaki, e takoto ai te tūāpapa mō te whakawhiti whakaaro ki te tangata. Ahakoa tuhia, ahakoa kōrerotia te mihi, he mea nui te āta kōwhiri i te kupu.

Ko te huarahi ki te whakawhiti kōrero i runga i te wairua manaaki, kei te  āta ako ki te mihi tika i te tangata.

Kia ora / Hi 

Tēnā koe / Hello (to one person)

Tēnā kōrua / Hello (to two people)

Tēnā koutou / Hello (to three or more people)

Kei te pēhea koe? / How are you?

Kei te pai ahau / I’m good

Ka nui te ora / I’m great

Haere rā / Goodbye (to someone leaving)

E noho rā / Goodbye (to someone staying)
